THE 2013 SALE WAS A SUCCESS!

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ctober 15 turned out to be a beautiful day for the 7th Annual 9 Peaks Ranch First Choice Bull Sale in Fort Rock, OR. Many repeat buyers made the trek to Fort Rock for the first time. After a great sirloin steak lunch provided by Central Oregon ranch Supply and Painted Hills Natural Beef, Auctioneers Trent Stewart and Eric Duarte sold bulls to 26 buyers from Oregon and California.

  • 85 range ready bulls sold for an average price of $4025.
  • 45 Fall Yearling bulls sold for an average of $3503
  • 40 Spring Yearling bulls sold for an average of $4613

High selling bull was lot 508, 9 Peaks Pardner Z508 aFeb 15 2012 son of SAV Final Answer 0035. Peter Bussman of Blue Lake, CA and Bill Barboni, DVM of Petaluma, CA purchased the bull for $10500.

Second high selling bull was lot 535, 9 Peaks Final Answer Z535 a Feb 25, 2012 son of SAV Final Answer 0035. Will Harrison purchased the bull for the Elwood Ranch in Bella Vista, CA for $9500. Lot 589, 9 Peaks Final Answer Z589 (a March 4, 2012 son of SAV Final Answer 0035) also sold to the Elwood Ranch for $7250.

Holly Reimers of Black Butte Ranch in Orland, CA took home lot 556, 9 Peaks Game Day Z556, a Feb 29, 2012 son of GDAR Game Day 449 for $6500.

High selling fall yearling was lot 908. Fessler Angus of Madras, OR bought 9 Peaks Game Day Z908, a September 15, 2012 son of GDAR Game Day 449, for $5500.

Second high selling fall yearling was lot 846, 9 Peaks Final Answer Z846, an August 31, 2012 son of SAV Final Answer 0035. Tom Ketscher of Ketscher Cattle Co in Hines, OR bought the bull for $5000.

Volume buyers were Brady Murphy for the Murphy Ranch of Paisley, OR with 10 bulls (photo credit Mary Williams Hyde), Shirley Murrer of Susanville, CA with 5 bulls, and Tom Ketcher of Hines, OR with 5 bulls. Tom O’Leary of Silver Lake, OR bought 4 bulls, Joe and Sharon Zanone of Ferndale, CA bought 4 bulls, the Elwood Ranch of Bella Vista, CA bought 4 bulls, and Dan Hatfield of Roseburg, OR bought 4 bulls.

Aaron considers this bull to be the best herdsire prospect he’s bred in twenty years. Excellent growth, low birthweight, great carcass, gentle temperament and outstanding fertility…backed by a great-uddered GAR Integrity dam that traces to the legendary Tehama Elite Blackbird Y764. We used this bull last spring; he was turned out on 1000 acres of desert sagebrush pasture with 60 heifers after one cycle of AI. The Z508 bull is fertile, sound and easy fleshing like his mama. He came back fat, and we had the lowest ever open rate on the heifers. We are retaining 1/3 semen interest. We will be collecting and using him AI this fall and in the future. He has tested negative for the DD genetic factor.
